It certainly has been a LONG time since the last time I checked in here. I suspect that the usefulness of this blog as a means of maintaining contact with many of you is diminishing.
I had wanted to post on January 1, with the results of my walking goal. Unfortunately, Scott’s Dad was hospitalized during that time, which kept us hopping. Pops is out of the hospital now, but is in hospice care.
And then the month of January hit. This has been the worst possible month. Well that may be a bit of hyperbole, but it’s not been great. First, that walking report.
THE OFFICIAL DISTANCE I WALKED IN 2016 IS 1,901.8 MILES, AN INCREASE OF 151 MILES OVER 2015!
And then, I had planned to go on and say “My new goal for 2017 is 2000 miles.”
But that goal is already in serious doubt. As we wrap up January, I am now in my 4th week of sinus and strep infections, I’m on prednisone, antibiotics and fex… something or other (an antihistimine, if I recall). Keeps me nauseous, dizzy and generally feeling yuck. I’m now over a week in the hole for PTO/Sick time.
The good news is, in December I got a clean bill of health for my heart! I have less than a 10% blockage which frankly is darn good for a… old man.
Yes, I said “Old Man”. Towards the beginning of January, I went to the doctor for a list of concerns (won’t mention them here) before I realized the extent of infections. My doctor walked in to the office, looked over the top of his glasses at me, then looked down at my list of concerns, then back at me over the top of his glasses and said “It sucks getting old, doesn’t it?” Seems just about everything I complained of was primarily related to the fact I’m, well, old…er.
The one thing he said that I am more than happy to comply with was “You need to take a vacation.” So, Scott and I are going to spend the weekend prior to Valentine’s Day in Ruidoso at a B&B up there.
So, what’s my goal for 2017? To stay alive, and maybe walk 1900 miles again.
